Experimenting with Different Modes of Therapy
From her mid-20s onwards, Nika experimented with different forms of talk-therapy, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and counselling. CBT and counselling helped somewhat, but failed to resolve the issues of anxiety and low self-esteem, partly because there seemed to be no rapport between Nika and the therapists. Nika also tried positive affirmations, which made her feel better immediately, but the improvements were temporary.
Nika first tasted the power of Solution-focused hypnotherapy with an incredible hypnotherapist Sarah Mortimer of Bristol, UK. Sarah told Nika (then Anna) that she did not believe in going over past events responsible for Nika’s social anxiety. The sessions were concerned with the future only, and the improvements were long-lasting.
It felt like magic to enter a world of secret stairwells, hidden rooms, rainbows and waterfalls, that were revealed during Nika’s hypnotherapy sessions. It was a respite from the day-to-day stress to know that this place of pure calm and safety was there all along.
Sarah’s friendly approach grounded Nika and allowed her to gain relief from external stressors, for the duration of the session and for the rest of the week.
The experience was a breath of fresh air; but whenever Nika came up against those pesky triggers in the outside world, she seemed to go back to square one - overreacting, feeling overwhelmed, helpless, alone, and like the world was against her; so Nika began to crave a final resolution to her issues.
The anxiety had subsided enough for Nika to be able to face the real root cause of the issues, which eventually led her to Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT Therapy).
The valuable lesson she took away from these experiences, was that therapist-client relationship was paramount for therapy success. This is why Nika concentrates on building a healthy working relationship with her clients as early as possible, by making adjustments to her style according to the client’s needs and wishes.
RTT hypnotherapy
At the start of Nika’s journey to recovery, the thought of having to go back to what had happened to her felt scary. Through attending traditional hypnotherapy sessions, Nika was reminded of that safe place in her mind where she could be at peace, regardless of external circumstances, but some important questions remained answered. Questions like:
Why do I feel so alone?
Is it my fault that I get anxious?
Am I being punished?
Are others judging me?
Is there something wrong with me?
What if this feeling never ends?
The questions themselves often brought about a state of panic, perpetuating the vicious cycle.
In an attempt to improve her mental health after another divorce, Nika learnt Transcendental meditation, and, after some time, self-hypnosis by Marisa Peer.
The combination of a regular meditative practice, combined with the ability to re-direct one’s thoughts through self-hypnosis, dramatically improved Nika’s quality of life, as she had a way to deal with anxiety spikes, which weren’t as acute, but were still coming.
The real life changing moment came when Nika listened to Marisa Peer’s recorded RTT Hypnotherapy masterclass on MindValley, on the subject of rejection.
An hour and a half later, Nika realised that a huge weight was lifted off her shoulders. This was the turning point in her life - the moment she realised that therapy wasn’t simply about talking about the problem nor talking about the solution, good therapy is about becoming free of the problem in whichever way works best for the mind of the sufferer.
Nika’s long-standing problems were being removed one by one in RTT therapy sessions - the sort of problems she had been told she would have to “learn to live with”.
Each session was a mind-blowing adventure, at the end of which everything was changed for the better… IRREVERSIBLY.
RTT therapy combined the best of the therapeutic ingredients and was capable of wiping away past pains one by one - in just ONE session per issue, without medication.
Since Nika qualified as an RTT Therapist it now feels like the door to her previous life is firmly shut and a new life has begun. To commemorate this, Nika changed her preferred first name from Anna.
